Grapes and Their Benefits

Grapes are something I'll bet you have never thought deeply about other then eating them. Let me give you some food for thought, (no pun intended), and all of the good health benefits you can gain by eating grapes.

One of the most common things talked about lately has been resveratrol. Resveratrol is actually found in grapes, and in fact, is part of the skin of grapes. One of the things that resveratrol does is help protect a person against a stroke. This is basically because resveratrol, fights against plaque within the arteries, known as artherosclerosis. Not only is resveratrol found in grapes alone, but also in grape jelly, juices that contain grapes, and wine. Wine don't forget, is made from grapes to begin with.

Another natural ingredient found in grapes is something called tannin. Like resveratrol, this is another polyphenol type which helps a person to fight off various viruses, colds, and certain types of flu. This compound in grapes is absorbed right into the stomach, going straight to the intestinal tract.

Grapes also help us to fight off cancers. The substance in grapes that works against cancer is known as caffeic acid. Caffeic acid is a strong antioxidant that has helped several individuals to fight colon and stomach cancers. Another remarkable trait of this substance is that it has been found to ease ulcerative colitis to a high degree for some individuals.

Grapes also have healing properties for the kidney functions. They act as a cleansing for the kidneys since they have diuretic properties. With potassium present in grapes, this prevents kidney stones. Kidney stones form when you have uric acid crystals in excess.

Another great thing about consuming grapes is that they do have quite a bit of vitamin C. Vitamin C in grapes tend to treat gout since your levels of uric acid become reduced through this fruit.
